A framework for health information governance: a scoping review

• To explore the impact of HIG on healthcare systems and services.

• Scoping review of literature from major databases (PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, ProQuest, Google Scholar) up to June 2024.
• Quality assessment using CASP checklists.
• Content analysis using MAXQDA 2020.

Main Results:

• 37 documents were analyzed (18 reviews, 9 qualitative, 10 mixed-methods).
• Six core categories and 48 subcategories of HIG were identified.
• A unified general framework for HIG was developed.

Conclusions:

• Health information governance is a necessity for health systems globally, particularly in developing countries.
• Developing and implementing HIG models is critical, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic.
• The identified framework can guide the development of HIG models.
