Self-compassion is linked to reduced suicide ideation in depressed youth. This is explained by stronger brain connectivity in the left caudate to the middle temporal gyrus during self-appraisal.

- This mediation effect persisted even after controlling for depression severity, anxiety, and non-suicidal self-injurious behavior.

- Left caudate to MTG functional connectivity during self-referential processing may be a neural biomarker for suicide ideation.
- Targeting this connectivity through interventions, alongside self-compassion training, could help reduce suicide ideation in depressed youth.
