    Background:

    • Increasing heart transplantations necessitate improved organ preservation for distant transport.
    • Current methods have limitations in maintaining organ viability beyond 6-7 hours.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate metabolic alterations in autoperfused heart-lung preparations at normothermia.
    • To determine if meeting metabolic demands can extend the viability of preserved organs.

    Main Methods:

    • Utilized 30 autoperfused heart-lung preparations with controlled left ventricle pressure.
    • Monitored hemodynamic parameters, blood gases, pH, and key metabolic substrates (glucose, free fatty acids, lactate).
