Summary

This study found no causal link between glaucoma and anxiety disorders. Mendelian randomization analysis indicates that glaucoma does not cause anxiety, clarifying the relationship between these conditions.

Background:

Glaucoma is a primary cause of blindness, marked by optic nerve damage.
A potential link between glaucoma and anxiety disorders has been suggested, but causality is unproven.

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate the potential causal relationship between glaucoma and anxiety disorders using a robust genetic approach.

Main Methods:

Mendelian Randomization analysis was employed.
Genome-Wide Association Study (GWAS) datasets for glaucoma and anxiety were utilized.
Statistical analyses were performed using the R programming language.

Main Results:

Sixty Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) were analyzed.
Regression models showed no statistically significant evidence that glaucoma causes anxiety disorders (p > 0.05).

Conclusions:

Glaucoma is not a causative factor for anxiety disorders.
The findings provide clarity on the non-causal relationship, minimizing confounding factors.
