Sleep disruption and sleep position: Increased wake frequency in supine predicts lateral position preference

Individuals prefer sleeping on their side (lateral position) because lying on their back (supine position) significantly increases sleep disturbances like respiratory arousals and awakenings. This study links poor supine tolerance to a higher preference for lateral sleep.
