Background:

The American College of Medical Toxicology (ACMT) Toxicology Investigators Consortium (ToxIC) Core Registry has collected national data on patient consultations since 2010.
The registry captures deidentified patient information including demographics, exposure agents, clinical presentations, treatments, and outcomes.

Purpose of the Study:

To present the fourteenth annual report of the ToxIC Core Registry, detailing patient consultations from 2023.
To analyze trends in exposure agents, reasons for consultation, and specific treatment outcomes.

Main Methods:

Data collected from 7392 patient consultations in 2023 across 36 participating sites (61 healthcare facilities).
Analysis of exposure agent classes, reasons for consultation by age, and trends in specific exposures and treatments.
Calculation of case fatality rate for reported exposures.

Main Results:

Ethanol was the most common exposure agent class (24.4%) in 2023, marking the first time since the registry's inception.
Opioids (22.7%), non-opioid analgesics (16.7%), and antidepressants (11.7%) were also significant exposure agents.
The overall case fatality rate was 1.3% (98 fatalities out of 7392 cases).
