Older adults can use smartphone Timed Up-and-Go (TUG) tests for remote mobility monitoring after emergency department (ED) discharge. While usable and safe, adherence and data quality challenges highlight needs for improved engagement and technology.

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the feasibility of older adults using smartphone-based accelerometer data from Timed Up-and-Go (TUG) tests.
  • To assess adherence, data quality, usability, and safety over an 11-week period post-ED discharge.

  • A prospective, observational cohort study involving adults aged 60+ from an academic ED.
  • Participants used the GaitMate app on iPhones for weekly at-home TUG tests, transmitting accelerometer data.
