Background:

  • This study specifically examined Mini-Cog scores against inner macular thickness (IMT) and VF sensitivity in glaucoma.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To analyze the association between cognitive function (Mini-Cog) and ocular parameters in glaucoma patients.
  • To investigate if impaired cognition correlates with glaucoma severity markers.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective analysis of 984 glaucoma patients (1897 eyes).
  • Collected data on age, sex, IOP, and Mini-Cog scores; 9% had abnormal scores.
  • Used mixed-effects models to assess Mini-Cog scores against IMT, PF-IMT, MD, PSD, FL, FN, and FP.

Main Results:

  • Abnormal Mini-Cog scores correlated with thinner IMT and PF-IMT.

  • Glaucoma patients with poorer cognitive function exhibit more severe glaucoma-related changes.
  • Findings suggest a correlation between cognitive decline and advanced glaucoma.
  • Further longitudinal research is recommended to elucidate the glaucoma-cognitive impairment relationship.
