Introduction

A novel technique using a povidone-iodine soaked pad during stoma reversal surgery eliminated surgical site infections (SSI) in a study cohort. This adjunctive method warrants further investigation to reduce SSI risk and patient morbidity.

  • The adjunctive technique of using a povidone-iodine soaked pad during stoma reversal was associated with zero post-operative SSIs in this cohort.
  • This method, combined with purse-string closure, shows promise in reducing SSI risk and overall morbidity associated with stoma reversal.
  • Further examination within surgical bundles is recommended to validate this technique for routine use.
