Summary
A pulmonary aneurysmal arteriovenous malformation was successfully treated using an Amplatzer vascular plug. This minimally invasive approach effectively excluded the feeding artery, resolving the condition in an asymptomatic patient.
Area of Science:
- Vascular Surgery
- Interventional Radiology
- Pulmonary Medicine
Background:
- Pulmonary arteriovenous malformations (PAVMs) are abnormal connections between pulmonary arteries and veins.
- Aneurysmal PAVMs, though rare, pose a risk of rupture and hemorrhage.
- Diagnosis is often incidental, as seen in this asymptomatic patient.

Aneurysm III: Interprofessional Care
Aneurysm management involves either conservative medical therapy or surgical intervention, depending on the size and symptoms of the aneurysm. Conservative management is generally reserved for smaller, asymptomatic aneurysms, while larger or symptomatic aneurysms often necessitate surgical repair.Conservative Medical TherapyFor small, asymptomatic aneurysms, particularly abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) less than 5.5 centimeters in diameter, conservative medical therapy is recommended. Hemodialysis I: Introduction
Hemodialysis (HD) is a medical treatment that artificially removes waste products, excess fluids, and toxins from the blood when the kidneys are no longer able to perform these functions effectively. In this process, blood is filtered through a semipermeable membrane, allowing for the selective removal of waste while preserving necessary components like blood cells and proteins. Hemodialysis is typically performed in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) or severe kidney...
