Summary
This case report details successful chest wall reconstruction in a dog with extraskeletal osteosarcoma using a 3D-printed titanium mesh implant. The innovative technique achieved excellent functional and cosmetic outcomes without recurrence or complications.

Background:
- A 6-year-old dog presented with a rapidly growing right chest wall mass, suspected to be malignant based on fine-needle aspiration.
- Computed tomography (CT) confirmed a large external and internal mass originating from the chest wall, causing breathing difficulties and pleural effusion.
Observation:
- The dog experienced respiratory distress due to pleural effusion, which was hemorrhagic but free of malignant cells upon analysis.
- Surgical intervention involved en bloc resection of the 7th-10th ribs and adjacent tissues, followed by reconstruction of the thoracic cavity.
Findings:
- A 3D-printed, contoured titanium mesh was utilized to reconstruct the extensive chest wall defect, secured to ribs and muscles.
- Histopathological diagnosis confirmed extraskeletal osteosarcoma. Postoperative CT at 8 months showed no recurrence, metastasis, or implant failure.
Implications:
- This is the first report of chest wall reconstruction using titanium mesh in a canine patient.
- Titanium mesh offers a viable solution for extensive thoracic defects, enabling successful reconstruction with minimal complications.
