  • Significant effects for third through fifth graders were only observed at higher BLLs (8-10 µg/dL).

Conclusions:

  • Childhood blood lead levels (BLLs) demonstrate significant adverse effects on school behavior in third through eighth graders.
  • These negative impacts occur even at BLLs below the CDC's reference value of 3.5 µg/dL.
  • Preventing early childhood lead exposure offers substantial long-term benefits for student behavior and educational outcomes, especially for older students exhibiting more severe disruptive behavior.
