    Summary

    The Background Interference Procedure (BIP) did not correlate with epilepsy variables in adults. This cognitive test showed a high false negative rate, suggesting limited utility for neurological assessment in epilepsy patients.

    Background:

    • The Background Interference Procedure (BIP) is a neuropsychological test.
    • Its utility in assessing cognitive function in epilepsy is under investigation.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To correlate Canter's BIP scores with clinical variables in adult epileptics.
    • To evaluate the BIP's diagnostic accuracy compared to the Trail Making Test and neurological/psychiatric diagnoses.

    • 141 adult epileptic patients' BIP scores were analyzed.
    • Correlations were examined with age at onset, etiology, symptom type, EEG dysrhythmia, and lesion locus.
    • BIP performance was compared to Trail Making Test (TMT) results and diagnostic classifications.

    • Future research should incorporate behavioral measures of OBS to further validate the BIP.
