Levels of Health Promotion and Illness Prevention01:26

Levels of Health Promotion and Illness Prevention

12.5K
Health promotion allows a person to control the determinants of health, resulting in an improved health status. It enhances the quality of life and reduces premature deaths. Health promotion and illness prevention programs help people make beneficial choices to reduce the risk of disease and disabilities. Patient-centered Care01:13

Patient-centered Care

2.0K
Patient-centered care involves delivering care beyond inpatient hospitalization. Reflective practice can enhance a patient-centered approach. Reflective practice is a process of reasoning that considers all aspects of the present situation, including practicalities, learning from personal practice, and consideration of patient needs. Patients appreciate care decisions made while considering their input. Involving the patient in their care provides the patient with a sense of contribution rather...

Elements Crucial for Effective Psychotherapy

34
Research has highlighted several critical factors that influence the effectiveness of psychotherapy, such as the therapeutic alliance, the therapist, and the client.
The Therapeutic Alliance
The therapeutic alliance refers to the relationship between the therapist and the client. The alliance strengthens when the therapist and the client engage in a nurturing, supportive, trusting, empathetic, and respectful relationship, improving therapeutic outcomes. Therapists must monitor this relationship...

Modeling in Therapy01:26

Modeling in Therapy

56
Modeling, a key technique in therapy, uses observational learning to help clients acquire and practice new skills by watching therapists demonstrate desired behaviors. This approach, rooted in Albert Bandura's concept of vicarious learning, plays a significant role in therapeutic interventions for various psychological conditions, including social anxiety, ADHD, and depression.
Participant Modeling
Participant modeling involves therapists demonstrating calm and effective behaviors in...

Psychodynamic Therapy01:29

Psychodynamic Therapy

56
Psychodynamic therapies emphasize the exploration of unconscious processes and early childhood experiences as fundamental contributors to psychological difficulties. These therapies, deeply rooted in Freud's psychoanalytic theory, aim to uncover and resolve unconscious conflicts, granting individuals insights that promote emotional and behavioral healing. Contemporary psychodynamic approaches have evolved, integrating a broader range of influences and methodologies while still valuing the...

Stress Prevention and Stress Management Techniques VI

27
Adopting a healthier lifestyle often requires overcoming significant challenges, but leveraging psychological, social, and cultural resources can facilitate meaningful change. Effective self-change hinges on understanding and applying key tools such as motivation and goal setting, which help sustain efforts toward long-term health benefits.
Motivation and Self-Determination

Area of Science:

  • Medical Education
  • Occupational Health
  • Psychology

Background:

  • Organization-sponsored interventions can enhance wellbeing and reduce stigma associated with seeking help.
  • Faculty in academic medical centers face unique stressors impacting their wellbeing.
  • A coaching intervention was developed to address wellbeing needs within this population.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To explore the acceptability and feasibility of a coaching intervention designed to improve wellbeing among pediatric faculty.
  • To assess the impact of the coaching intervention on wellbeing, stress, and work engagement.

Main Methods:

  • A pilot, pre/post design study was conducted with pediatric faculty at an academic medical center.
  • Participants received up to six live virtual coaching sessions and a wellbeing individual development plan (WB-IDP).
  • Feasibility was defined by session completion and WB-IDP use; acceptability was measured by feedback. Wellbeing (WHO-5), stress (PSS), and engagement (UWES) were assessed at baseline and 3, 6 months.

Main Results:

  • All 28 participants completed at least one coaching session, with 64% completing four or more.
  • A statistically significant increase in the aggregate WHO-5 wellbeing score was observed from baseline (53.3) to 6 months (64.3) (P < .01).
  • Over 50% of participants showed a clinically significant improvement in wellbeing (≥10 points) by 6 months.

Conclusions:

  • Individualized, certified wellbeing coaching was successfully implemented and significantly improved wellbeing among pediatric faculty.
  • The intervention demonstrated feasibility and acceptability, indicating its potential for faculty development programs.
  • Wellbeing coaching may offer a valuable strategy to enhance organizational outcomes in university and healthcare settings.
