Tumor characteristics in immunosuppressed and renal dysfunction populations

Patients with end-stage renal disease or kidney transplants do not have a higher risk of aggressive kidney cancer. Renal dysfunction and immunosuppression did not correlate with aggressive tumor pathology in this study.

- Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) risk is elevated in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and kidney transplant recipients due to renal dysfunction and immunosuppression.

Conclusions:
- No relationship was observed between renal dysfunction status and aggressive renal tumor pathology.
- Patients with ESRD or kidney transplants appear to have a similar risk of aggressive pathology as the general population.
- Management guidelines for renal tumors in ESRD and transplant patients should align with those for the general population.
