Background:

  • Computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) is increasingly used in orthotics.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To introduce an innovative CAD/CAM approach for Damen corset orthoses using 3D printers and CT data.
  • To evaluate the comfort and fit of 3D-printed orthoses.
  • To assess the feasibility of this method for resource-limited prosthetic companies.

Main Methods:

  • Custom lumbar and thoracolumbar orthoses were fabricated using CAD/CAM.
  • Four healthy patients participated in comfort and fit assessments.
  • Orthoses were evaluated by a prosthetist and through the Orthotics Prosthetics Users' Survey-Client Satisfaction with Device (OPUS-CSD).
