  • To develop and evaluate an algorithm-based mobile texting platform for promoting self-management in patients with IC/BPS.
  • To assess the feasibility, usability, and potential utility of this digital health tool.

  • A 6-week mobile texting platform delivered 4 self-management modules: education, cognitive behavioral therapy, pelvic floor physical therapy, and mindfulness.
  • Feasibility and usability were measured by patient engagement and the System Usability Scale.
  • Validated questionnaires assessed changes in patient-physician communication, pain self-efficacy, and IC/BPS symptoms.

Main Results:

  • The platform demonstrated high usability (median System Usability Scale score: 87) with 76.9% patient engagement.
  • Significant improvements were observed in satisfaction with patient-physician communication (P < .001), pain self-efficacy (P < .001), and IC/BPS symptom scores (P < .001).
  • Pelvic floor physical therapy was the most selected module (50%).

Conclusions:

  • An automated mobile platform offers a viable solution to enhance access to self-management strategies for IC/BPS patients.
  • This technology can help alleviate the burden on clinicians in counseling patients with IC/BPS.
  • The platform shows potential for improving patient outcomes and communication in IC/BPS care.
