    Background:

    • Detecting mandibular bone invasion by oral cancer before treatment is challenging for head and neck surgeons.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To determine the incidence of mandibular bone involvement in oral squamous cell carcinoma.
    • To correlate histologic bone invasion with clinical and radiologic findings.

    Main Methods:

    • Retrospective analysis of 104 patients undergoing segmental mandibular resection for oral squamous cell carcinoma.
    • Histologic examination of resected specimens for tumor invasion.
    • Correlation of bone invasion with lesion site, disease stage, tumor grade, clinical impression, neck disease, bone scans, and radiographs.

    • Mandibular bone involvement is a significant concern in oral squamous cell carcinoma, especially for alveolar and adjacent lesions.
    • Preoperative imaging and clinical assessment are valuable for detecting bone invasion.
    • Segmental mandibulectomy is supported for patients with confirmed or suspected bone invasion to ensure adequate surgical margins.
