    Area of Science:

    • Neurosurgery
    • Pediatric Plastic Surgery
    • Craniofacial Surgery

    Background:

    • Trigonocephaly is a premature fusion of the metopic suture, a rare craniosynostosis.
    • Existing surgical treatments can be complex and may not always yield optimal cosmetic results.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To describe a novel and effective surgical technique for treating trigonocephaly.
    • To evaluate the cosmetic and technical outcomes of this new procedure.

    Main Methods:

    • A bicoronal scalp flap is raised, exposing the glabella and supraorbital ridges.
    • A "gull-wing" bone flap is created in the frontal region, hinged on the metopic ridge.
    • The fused metopic suture is burred down with a high-speed drill, but not removed.

    Main Results:

    • The described surgical method resulted in excellent immediate cosmetic outcomes.
    • The procedure was found to be technically easier compared to morselization techniques.
    • Satisfactory results were achieved in 13 patients who underwent the surgery.

    Conclusions:

    • This surgical technique provides a satisfactory and cosmetically pleasing treatment for trigonocephaly.
    • The method is technically simpler and potentially advantageous over previously described procedures.
