Purpose of the Study:

  • To systematically review and meta-analyze existing evidence on tissue copper status in colorectal cancer.
  • To investigate the association between copper levels and CRC progression.
  • To conduct a replication study to validate findings.

Main Methods:

  • Systematic review and meta-analysis of 13 studies (including a replication study) involving 312 CRC and 298 healthy mucosa samples.
  • Searched multiple databases (PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, etc.) for relevant articles published until June 2023.
  • Assessed standardized mean differences (SMD) using a random effects model and performed sensitivity analyses.

  • Standardization of pre-analytical methods is critical for consistent and reliable research on copper in CRC.
  • Further research is warranted to elucidate the precise role of copper in colorectal cancer development and progression.
