Summary

Sialic acid-binding immunoglobulin-like lectin 15 (Siglec-15) is present in diffuse gliomas and correlates with tumor characteristics. Positive Siglec-15 expression is linked to smaller tumor size and higher apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values.

Area of Science:

  • Neuro-oncology
  • Immunology
  • Radiology

Background:

  • Sialic acid-binding immunoglobulin-like lectin 15 (Siglec-15) is implicated in tumor immune evasion and growth.
  • Understanding Siglec-15 expression in diffuse gliomas is crucial for diagnosis and prognosis.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate Siglec-15 expression in diffuse gliomas.
  • To correlate Siglec-15 expression with tumor magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features.

Main Methods:

  • Analyzed 57 glioma patients' MRI data, including morphology and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values.
  • Compared MRI features between patients with positive and negative Siglec-15 expression.
  • Utilized receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves to evaluate diagnostic performance.

Main Results:

  • Siglec-15 was expressed in peritumoral immunocytes, notably macrophages, with a 35.09% positive rate.
  • Positive Siglec-15 expression correlated with smaller tumor diameter and higher ADC values.
  • Combined diameter and ADC achieved an AUC of 0.762 for diagnostic assessment.

Conclusions:

  • Siglec-15 is expressed in the tumor microenvironment of diffuse gliomas.
  • Siglec-15 expression serves as a potential imaging biomarker, correlating with tumor size and ADC values.
  • These findings suggest Siglec-15's role in glioma progression and its potential as an imaging marker.
