Summary

Clear aligner therapy and conventional appliances effectively controlled vertical dimension in growing patients. Conventional appliances showed slightly better efficacy in vertical dimension control over 12 months.

Background:

  • Vertical dimension control is crucial in growing orthodontic patients.
  • Comparing clear aligners with conventional appliances for vertical control is important.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare vertical dimension changes in growing patients treated with clear aligner therapy versus Quad-helix and bite-block therapy.

Main Methods:

  • 40 growing patients (mean age 8.6 years) were randomly divided into clear aligner (Invisalign First) and conventional appliance (Quad-helix and bite block) groups.
  • Lateral cephalograms were taken pre- and post-treatment (12 months).
  • Nine angular and linear cephalometric parameters were measured.

Main Results:

  • No significant baseline differences between groups.
  • Both treatment groups showed statistically significant vertical dimension changes from pre- to post-treatment (p < 0.005).

Conclusions:

  • Both clear aligner and conventional appliance therapies effectively managed vertical dimension in growing patients.
  • Conventional appliances demonstrated slightly superior efficacy in vertical dimension control compared to clear aligners.
