  • To evaluate the efficacy of different quaternary ammonium surfactant-based coatings against SARS-CoV-2.
  • To compare contact-based, release-based, and combined action coatings for antiviral activity.

  • Preparation of glass and silicon surfaces with covalently attached or non-covalently bound quaternary ammonium surfactants.
  • Surface characterization using attenuated total reflection infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy, and contact angle measurements.
  • SARS-CoV-2 inactivation assessed via virus titration.

  • Free disinfectants demonstrate higher potency against SARS-CoV-2 compared to surface-bound ones.
