Summary

Elastic fibers in the aortic valve (AoV) are produced by valvular interstitial cells (VICs). This study identifies Eln-expressing VICs during early development, co-expressing smooth muscle and melanocytic markers, suggesting a role for melanocytes in elastogenesis.
