Interdisciplinary Care: The Health Care Team-I

1.6K
An interdisciplinary team includes many healthcare professionals working together and utilizing their skills, knowledge, and expertise to provide holistic and quality patient care.
Physicians
The physician's primary responsibility is to diagnose illness and direct the medical or surgical treatment of the condition. The authority to admit patients to a healthcare agency or institution and practice care within that setting is granted to physicians by the healthcare agency or institution...

The Professional Nurse01:22

The Professional Nurse

4.1K
Professional nurses are not limited to bedside care and are taking roles of greater responsibility. A nurse should have a knowledge-based practice, including personal, theoretical, procedural, cultural, and reflexive knowledge. Additionally, nurses must be competent in cognitive, technical, interpersonal, and ethical/legal skills. Some of the best attributes of successful nurses include the following:
Communication skills: These are critical characteristics, especially speaking and listening.

National Nursing Organizations II01:30

National Nursing Organizations II

1.2K
Nursing organizations play a vital role in representing nurses working in specialized clinical settings, such as the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN).
The AACN emphasizes a healthy work environment through six standards to achieve an optimal patient outcome. The standards are appropriate staffing, meaningful recognition, collaboration, authentic leadership, effective communication, and decision-making. In addition, AACN provides certification programs, webinars, journals, and...

Fundamentals of Nursing Process II

3.5K
There are several characteristics related to delivering nursing care. One vital characteristic of the nursing process is that it can be used to protect nurses and justify the provided care. Productive use of the nursing process requires the knowledge and skills of nurses to assess and solve issues. Nurses should develop and strengthen their critical thinking skills and evidence-based nursing interventions to improve their skills in formulating nursing care plans. A well-defined approach to...

Nursing Process for Patient and Caregiver Teaching II: Planning and Implementation

1.2K
Planning for learning involves the development of a teaching plan. Teaching plans are similar to nursing care plans—both follow the steps of the nursing process. Planning in the teaching process involves setting goals and outcomes. Here, goals identify what a patient needs to achieve to understand a healthcare topic better, whereas the outcomes are the action to be performed by the patient to achieve the goal within a timeframe. For example, if the goal is to educate the patient about...

Nursing Clinical Information System (NCIS)
A Nursing Clinical Information System (NCIS) is a specialized type of healthcare information system tailored to meet the unique needs of nursing practice. It incorporates the principles of nursing informatics to streamline information management and improve the quality of care delivery.
Critical attributes of NCIS include:

    Area of Science:

    • Nursing Education
    • Medical Simulation
    • Advanced Practice Nursing

    Background:

    • Intraprofessional simulation and training in acute care nursing specialties can foster collaboration.
    • This approach aims to enhance safe and high-quality patient care through shared learning experiences.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To implement and evaluate intraprofessional simulations for advanced practice nursing students.
    • To assess the impact of simulation on learner confidence, clinical judgment, and perceived practice benefits.

    Main Methods:

    • Multiple intraprofessional simulations were conducted across the lifespan, including adult and pediatric scenarios.
    • Simulations covered critical skills such as airway management, point-of-care ultrasound, vascular access, chest tube placement, and lumbar puncture.
    • Faculty and simulation resources were shared across participating nursing specialties.

    Main Results:

    • Over five years, 235 graduate students from three advanced practice nursing specialties participated.
    • Learner feedback indicated increased confidence in clinical skills.
    • Participants reported a perceived benefit to their future practice and enhanced clinical judgment.

    Conclusions:

    • Standardized, validated assessments are needed to quantitatively measure skill acquisition.
    • Expansion of intraprofessional simulation offerings is recommended.
    • Future directions include developing interprofessional simulations with physician assistant and perfusionist colleagues.
