Area of Science:

  • Nursing Education
  • Psychology
  • Healthcare Professions

Background:

  • Resilience and solution-oriented thinking are crucial for nursing students' well-being and academic success.
  • Limited research exists on the interplay between these two variables in this population.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the relationship between resilience and solution-oriented thinking in nursing students.
  • To identify factors influencing resilience in this demographic.

Main Methods:

  • A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 585 nursing students in Turkey.
  • Data were collected using the Resilience Scale for Nurses (RSN) and Solution-Focused Inventory (SFI).
  • Statistical analyses included descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and multivariate linear regression.

Main Results:

  • A significant positive correlation was found between resilience and solution-oriented thinking.
  • Mean scores for RSN and SFI were 71.96 (SD 8.11) and 51.49 (SD 6.21), respectively.
  • Gender, economic status, GPA, and solution-focused thinking skills predicted resilience levels.

Conclusions:

  • Solution-oriented thinking is a significant determinant of resilience in nursing students.
  • Early assessment and curriculum development are recommended to enhance resilience and solution-oriented thinking skills.
  • These findings have implications for improving nursing education and student support systems.
