Disorders of the Nervous Tissue01:28

Disorders of the Nervous Tissue

1.1K
Nervous tissue is a vital component of the human body's communication system, enabling us to perceive and respond to stimuli. However, like all other tissues, it is vulnerable to disorders and diseases that can significantly impact our neurological functioning.
Homeostatic Imbalances:
Alzheimer's disease manifests as a gradual decline in memory and cognitive abilities, attributed to the buildup of amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles in the brain.
Parkinson's disease arises...

Viral Recombination00:57

Viral Recombination

23.3K
Cells are sometimes infected by more than one virus at once. When two viruses disassemble to expose their genomes for replication in the same cell, similar regions of their genomes can pair together and exchange sequences in a process called recombination. Alternatively, viruses with segmented genomes can swap segments in a process called reassortment.

Summary

Influenza A infection can cause neurological complications like peripheral neuropathy. This case study shows a patient recovered spontaneously with supportive care, suggesting a direct link between influenza A and neuropathy.

Area of Science:

  • Neurology
  • Infectious Diseases

Background:

  • Influenza (flu) is a common viral respiratory illness.
  • Neurological complications, such as encephalopathy and seizures, are known but less common sequelae of influenza.
