Background:

  • Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a common neurodevelopmental disorder.
  • Current diagnostic methods for ADHD rely on subjective assessments, limiting precision.
  • A novel tool, the Distractor-Embedded Auditory Continuous Performance Test (da-CPT), was developed to improve ADHD diagnosis.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the validity and reliability of the da-CPT for diagnosing ADHD in children.
  • To assess the da-CPT's ability to measure inattention, hyperactivity, impulsivity, and timing.
  • To enhance the clinical utility of ADHD diagnosis through an objective, auditory-based assessment.

Main Methods:

  • 160 children (80 with ADHD, 80 controls), aged 6-12, participated.
  • Participants completed the da-CPT, Conners' Parent Rating Scale-Revised Short Form (CPRS-R), and either MOXO or IVA-2.
  • Data were analyzed using ROC curves and correlations to determine diagnostic accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity.

Main Results:

  • The da-CPT achieved high diagnostic accuracy: 91.25% sensitivity and 83.75% specificity.
  • The inattention index showed the strongest discriminatory power (AUC = 0.881).
  • da-CPT scores strongly correlated with ADHD severity (p < 0.01).

Conclusions:

  • The da-CPT is a valid and reliable diagnostic tool for ADHD in children aged 6-12.
  • The auditory-based assessment with distractors provides ecologically valid data.
  • The da-CPT enhances diagnostic precision and clinical utility for ADHD.
