Radial keratotomy: factors in medicolegal claims

Twelve medicolegal claims based on radial keratotomies are evaluated. Although surgical technique or complications of the operation were the bases of a few claims, most related to inadequate informed consent and/or poor selection of patients. Using these twelve cases as examples, the author offers advice to avoid pitfalls in both preoperative decision making and surgical procedure.
