Immune checkpoint molecules performance in ANCA vasculitis

Immune checkpoint (IC) molecules, including PD-1, show altered levels in anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody-associated vasculitis (AAV). Urinary PD-1 and PD-L2 are lower in AAV patients, while serum levels are higher, suggesting a role in disease activity.

- The study suggests a potential abolition of the IC pathway during active AAV, which is restored during remission.
- Findings indicate that the PD-1 axis plays a significant role in AAV pathophysiology.
- The PD-1 axis may serve as a novel biomarker for assessing AAV disease activity.
