    Summary

    Polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMN) from cattle with left displaced abomasum (LDA) show reduced phagocytic and bactericidal activities. Concurrent infection further depresses these immune functions in LDA-affected cattle.

    Background:

    • Left displaced abomasum (LDA) is a common gastrointestinal disorder in cattle.
    • Immune function may be compromised in cattle with LDA, potentially increasing susceptibility to infections.
    • Polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMN) are critical for innate immunity, mediating phagocytosis and bacterial killing.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the phagocytic and bactericidal activities of PMN in cattle with LDA.
    • To compare immune cell function between LDA cattle with and without concurrent infections.
    • To assess the effect of surgical correction on PMN function in LDA cattle.
