Summary

This study identified allergenic proteins in Sibipiruna (Cenostigma pluviosum var. peltophoroides) pollen, which may cause pollinosis symptoms. These findings pave the way for future allergy research and immunotherapy development.

Background:

  • Seasonal pollinosis symptoms often correlate with the flowering of Cenostigma pluviosum var. peltophoroides (Sibipiruna) trees.
  • The potential allergenicity of Sibipiruna pollen has not been previously investigated.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To determine if Sibipiruna pollen contains allergenic proteins.
  • To characterize the allergenic components of Sibipiruna pollen.

Main Methods:

  • Pollen morphology was analyzed using light, scanning electron, and emission microscopy.
  • Biochemical characterization was performed using Shotgun Label-Free Proteomic Analysis.
  • Protein identification was conducted against the UNIPROT and Allergome databases.

Main Results:

  • Morphological characteristics of mature Sibipiruna anther pollen were detailed.
  • 349 proteins were identified in Sibipiruna pollen.
  • 36 homologous allergenic proteins were confirmed using the Allergome database.

Conclusions:

  • This study provides the first description of allergenic proteins in Sibipiruna pollen.
  • The findings enhance understanding of Sibipiruna pollen's allergenic composition.
  • These results can aid in developing targeted extracts for allergy sensitization studies and potential immunotherapy.
