Proximal migration of the Neuroform Atlas stent during deployment can be successfully managed by careful retrieval. This technique offers a viable solution for complex stent placement challenges in cerebral aneurysm treatment.

Area of Science:

  • Endovascular Neurosurgery
  • Medical Device Technology

Background:

  • The Neuroform Atlas stent is a recognized device for treating broad-necked, unruptured cerebral aneurysms.
  • Stent deployment complications, such as proximal migration, can occur during endovascular procedures.

Observation:

  • Two cases are presented where the Neuroform Atlas stent migrated proximally during deployment.
  • In both cases, the migrated stent was successfully retrieved into the delivery catheter before complete deployment.

Findings:

  • Successful retrieval of a proximally migrated Neuroform Atlas stent was achieved in two distinct cases involving complex cerebral aneurysms.
  • An experimental phase confirmed the safety of retrieving the Neuroform Atlas stent into the parent catheter.

  • Stent retrieval is a potential management strategy for proximal migration during Neuroform Atlas stent deployment.
  • This approach may prevent suboptimal treatment and potential long-term adverse outcomes in cerebral aneurysm repair.
