Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess visual perception, body appreciation, body image quality of life, and life satisfaction in aesthetic surgery patients.
  • To compare these outcomes between aesthetic surgery patients and healthy controls.

Main Methods:

  • 57 aesthetic surgery patients and 56 healthy controls were assessed.
  • Participants completed the Motor-Free Visual Perception Test (3rd Edition), Body Appreciation Scale, Body Image Quality of Life Inventory, and Satisfaction with Life Scale.
  • Exclusion criteria included psychiatric disorders and revision surgeries.

Main Results:

  • Aesthetic surgery patients had significantly lower visual perception scores (MVPT-3) than controls.
  • Increased number of surgeries correlated with decreased MVPT-3 scores.
  • Lower body image quality (BIQLI) and appreciation (BAS) were linked to reduced visual perception.

Conclusions:

  • Visual perception may be impaired in aesthetic surgery patients, particularly those undergoing multiple procedures.
  • Evaluating visual perception could help prevent negative outcomes and improve patient experiences in aesthetic surgery.
