Summary

Individuals with chronic nonspecific low back pain (CNLBP) often have altered hip movement, potentially indicating a hip capsular pattern. Hamstring flexibility, however, was not significantly different in these patients compared to controls.

Background:

  • Chronic nonspecific low back pain (CNLBP) is associated with altered lumbosacral biomechanics.
  • Compromised hip joint mobility may contribute to CNLBP.
  • Investigating hip range of motion (ROM) and hamstring flexibility in CNLBP patients is crucial.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess hip range of motion (ROM) in individuals with CNLBP.
  • To evaluate hamstring flexibility in individuals with CNLBP.
  • To determine if a hip capsular pattern exists in CNLBP patients compared to controls.

Main Methods:

  • A case-control study involving 27 individuals with CNLBP and 30 age-matched healthy controls.
  • Bilateral hip range of motion and hamstring flexibility were measured by blinded observers.
  • Study conducted at a tertiary hospital between July 2017 and September 2018.

Main Results:

  • CNLBP patients showed significantly reduced hip adduction and internal rotation.
