Summary
Filariasis, a parasitic infection, can cause tropical pulmonary eosinophilia and deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in patients with unexplained eosinophilia. Treatment with diethylcarbamazine (DEC) and ivermectin led to full symptom recovery in two reported cases.
Area of Science:
- Tropical medicine
- Infectious diseases
- Hematology
Background:
- Eosinophilia presents diagnostic challenges due to diverse infectious and non-infectious etiologies.
- Filariasis, caused by Wuchereria bancrofti and Brugia species, is a significant tropical infection.
- Conventional filariasis diagnosis relies on detecting microfilaria in peripheral blood smears, which can lead to missed diagnoses.

Myocarditis II: Clinical features and Diagnostic Tests
1
Myocarditis is an inflammation of the heart muscle. The symptoms vary widely, encompassing asymptomatic presentations to severe, acute manifestations.Clinical PresentationAsymptomatic cases: In some instances, myocarditis may be asymptomatic, with the infection resolving without intervention. These cases often go undetected unless discovered incidentally through diagnostic imaging or tests conducted for other reasons.General Early Symptoms: Early symptoms of myocarditis are non-specific and can...

Tuberculosis (TB) is a contagious infection primarily affecting the lung parenchyma but which can also affect other body parts. TB can be classified based on disease development, presentation, and the affected anatomical site.

Endocarditis II: Clinical features and Diagnostic Tests
1
Endocarditis can present various clinical features depending on the causative organism and the patient's underlying health conditions. Initially, the clinical features of infective endocarditis develop gradually, presenting with nonspecific symptoms that can be easily mistaken for other illnesses.General SymptomsEarly symptoms of infective endocarditis are fever, chills, weakness, malaise, fatigue, and weight loss. These symptoms reflect the systemic nature of the infection and the body's...

Diversity of Protists I
Excavata is a diverse group of protists that includes both chemoorganotrophic and phototrophic species, with some thriving in anaerobic environments. Among the key groups within Excavata are diplomonads and parabasalids, which are flagellated protists that lack mitochondria and chloroplasts. These microorganisms typically inhabit anoxic environments, such as the intestines of animals, where they exist either symbiotically or as parasites, relying on fermentation for energy production. Some...
