    • Psychology

    Background:

    • Life satisfaction in elderly individuals is influenced by various factors, including engagement in meaningful activities.
    • Understanding the volition subsystem (interests, values, personal causation) is crucial for assessing occupational engagement.
    • The Occupational Questionnaire (OQ) was developed to measure volition and activity patterns.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To examine the relationships between the volition subsystem, activity patterns, and life satisfaction in older adults.
    • To investigate how specific occupational elements correlate with overall life satisfaction.

    Main Methods:

    • A study involving 60 elderly individuals.
    • Utilized the Occupational Questionnaire (OQ) to measure volition and activity patterns.

    Related Experiment Videos

  • Correlated OQ scores with measures of life satisfaction.
  • Main Results:

    • Positive correlations were found between interest, value, and personal causation in occupation and life satisfaction.
    • Time spent in work and leisure activities showed a stronger correlation with high life satisfaction compared to daily living tasks and rest.

    Conclusions:

    • Occupational engagement, particularly in work and leisure, is significantly linked to life satisfaction in the elderly.
    • Occupational therapists can enhance elderly patients' life satisfaction by focusing on interests, values, personal causation, work, and leisure.
    • Further research is needed to validate these findings.
