Summary

Lesioning the lateral preoptic area (lPOA) impairs the ability to adjust hypothalamic temperature (Thy) and maintain wakefulness during cold exposure. This suggests the lPOA is crucial for thermoregulation and sleep-wake balance in cold environments.
