    Summary

    Systemic lupus erythematosus patients can develop progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML), possibly due to immunosuppression. Corticosteroids may offer temporary relief for neurological symptoms, but PML should be considered in lupus patients with neurological issues.

    Background:

    • Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease.
    • Immunosuppressive therapies are common in SLE management.
    • Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) is a rare demyelinating disease.

    Observation:

    • Two SLE patients developed PML.
    • PML onset likely occurred post-immunosuppression.
    • High-dose corticosteroids showed transient benefit.

    Findings:

    • PML is a potential neurological complication in SLE.
    • Steroid treatment may temporarily alleviate PML symptoms.

    Implications:

    • PML should be included in the differential diagnosis for neurological abnormalities in SLE patients.
