Seizures: Classification

Epilepsy is primarily characterized by unpredictable seizures, either provoked by an identifiable factor, such as injury or illness, or unprovoked, occurring spontaneously without apparent cause.

Summary

Hypnopompic seizures, a rare epilepsy type, were localized to the mesial orbitofrontal cortex using stereotactic EEG (SEEG). This finding offers new insights into seizure-induced arousal mechanisms and targeted epilepsy surgery.
