  • Half of dashboards involved end-users in design; few used formative usability testing or theory.
  • Education, audit and feedback, and advisory boards were common uptake strategies; quantitative evaluations predominated.

Conclusions:

  • Many dashboards neglect end-user needs and contextual factors during development.
  • Qualitative evaluation methods are underutilized but essential for improving dashboard effectiveness.
  • Findings highlight the need for best practices in dashboard development for planners.
