Current Trends in Nursing II01:30

Current Trends in Nursing II

1.2K
Trends in nursing are multifactorial and associated with changes in society, within the nursing profession, and in other professions. Notably, telehealth and remote nursing contribute to successful healthcare delivery for numerous patients and help reduce stress for nurses due to nursing shortages. Nurses can reach patients, monitor their conditions, and interact with them using computers, audio, visual accessories, and telephones—for example, remote patient monitoring systems. Likewise,...

The Scientific Method in Nursing Process

9.5K
The scientific method provides the foundation for any research. It is the most reliable and objective of all forms of gaining knowledge and guides in applying research-based evidence in practice and conducting future research.
When using research findings to change practice, one must understand the process used to guide a study. The scientific method is a systematic, step-by-step process that supports the data's validity, reliability, and generalizability. As a result, findings can be...

Accountability and Responsibility of a Nurse I01:30

Accountability and Responsibility of a Nurse I

1.8K
Accountability in nursing is a fundamental principle that underscores the obligation of nurses to take responsibility for their actions and answer for any errors or omissions in patient care. This principle is grounded in the professional, legal, and ethical frameworks that shape nursing practice. For instance, nurses must adhere to all relevant laws, regulations, and practice standards, including guidelines set forth by nursing boards and professional bodies, to ensure their actions comply...

Fundamentals of Nursing Process II

3.4K
There are several characteristics related to delivering nursing care. One vital characteristic of the nursing process is that it can be used to protect nurses and justify the provided care. Productive use of the nursing process requires the knowledge and skills of nurses to assess and solve issues. Nurses should develop and strengthen their critical thinking skills and evidence-based nursing interventions to improve their skills in formulating nursing care plans. A well-defined approach to...

Nursing Code of Ethics01:29

Nursing Code of Ethics

2.1K
The Nursing Code of Ethics sets the ethical benchmark for the profession, and guides nurses in ethical analysis and decision making at the societal, organizational, and clinical levels. The code encompasses showing compassion and respect for the patient, their families, and communities in all circumstances while committing to providing patient-centered care. In addition, the code states that nurses must advocate for the patient by defending a cause or recommendation to protect their rights,...

Area of Science:

  • Nursing Research
  • Evidence-Based Practice
  • Health Sciences

Background:

  • Evidence-based practice (EBP) is crucial for quality nursing care.
  • Assessing nurses' research knowledge and skills is vital for EBP implementation.
  • Understanding the current state in Ghana can inform targeted interventions.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To describe nursing competency in Ghana concerning evidence-based practice.
  • To evaluate research knowledge and skills among Ghanaian nurses.

Main Methods:

  • A nationwide descriptive cross-sectional survey was conducted.
  • 480 clinical nurses and nurse educators participated.
  • Data were analyzed using Mann-Whitney U-test and Kruskal Wallis H-test.

Main Results:

  • 30% of nurses rated their research skills (question formulation, literature search, critical analysis) as fair or poor.
  • Half disagreed with adopting new methods; over half agreed with EBP principles.
  • Higher research knowledge and skills were significantly associated with females, married nurses, Christians, nurse educators, and part-time workers.

Conclusions:

  • While self-reported competencies were good, overall composite scores indicated fair research knowledge and skills.
  • Educational levels significantly impacted research knowledge, EBP attitude, and nursing competencies.
  • Nurses require further training in appraising and evaluating research for practical application.
