Could APTIMA mRNA Assay Contribute to Predicting Cervical Bacterial Sexually Transmitted Co-Infections? A Colposcopy

Human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA testing shows better prediction of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) than APTIMA testing in young women. However, APTIMA testing is more specific for bacterial STI negativity.

- Chronic high-risk human papillomavirus (hrHPV) infection and persistent cervical inflammation contribute to precancerous cervical lesions.

- Further research is needed to understand the interplay between HPV biomarkers and bacterial STIs in cervical health.
