    Summary

This case report highlights cardiac tamponade that appeared during spontaneous breathing. Intrapericardial pressure changes during spontaneous versus controlled ventilation are discussed.

    Area of Science:

    • Cardiology
    • Anesthesiology
    • Critical Care Medicine

    Background:

    • Cardiac tamponade is a critical condition where fluid accumulation in the pericardial sac impedes cardiac function.
    • Ventilation strategies can significantly influence intrathoracic and intrapericardial pressures.
    • Delayed presentation of cardiac tamponade can occur, particularly with changes in ventilatory support.
