Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess the cardiovascular consequences of nicotine exposure from vape aerosol inhalation.

Main Methods:

  • Mice were exposed to nicotine vape aerosol (5 mg/mL) or vehicle alone for 4 weeks.
  • Mice underwent acute myocardial infarction (MI) injury.

Conclusions:

  • Nicotine vape aerosol significantly decreases myocardial function post-infarction.
  • Nicotine is the primary driver of impaired contractile function, not the aerosol vehicle.
  • Further research is needed on vaping, interstitial cell responses, and cardiac remodeling.
