    Area of Science:

    • Urology
    • Surgical Innovation

    Background:

    • Urinary incontinence affects a significant patient population.
    • Teflon injection is a minimally invasive treatment option for stress urinary incontinence.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the efficacy of periurethral or perurethral Teflon injection for treating urinary incontinence.
    • To assess outcomes in female and male patient cohorts separately.

    Main Methods:

    • Forty-six patients (28 female, 18 male) received periurethral or perurethral Teflon injections.
    • Patient outcomes were assessed post-procedure.

    Main Results:

    • Satisfactory results were observed in female patients, particularly those with normal resting anatomy.
    • Disappointing outcomes were noted in male patients, with no reported cures for post-prostatectomy stress incontinence.

    Conclusions:

    • Periurethral Teflon injection may be an effective treatment for urinary incontinence in select female patients.
    • Teflon injection demonstrated limited efficacy for post-prostatectomy stress incontinence in males.
