Background:

  • Spindle cell melanoma (SCM) is a rare subtype of melanoma.
  • SCM presents diagnostic challenges due to lack of typical cytologic markers, often leading to advanced disease.
  • Limited research exists on factors influencing SCM survival outcomes.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the impact of demographic, socioeconomic, and clinical factors on overall survival in SCM.
  • To provide updated data on SCM characteristics and treatment patterns.
  • To identify predictors of survival in SCM patients.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective cohort study of 9,210 histologically confirmed SCM cases (2004-2021).
  • Analysis of patient demographic, socioeconomic, and clinical data.
  • Multivariate Cox regression to determine effects on overall survival.

  • Most SCM cases were in White males (65.2%) in metropolitan areas (85.7%), with an average age of 67.3 years.
