Low grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasm mimicking malignant ovarian tumor: A case report

  • Imaging revealed complex ovarian masses; surgery included hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy.
  • An incidental finding of a ruptured, mucin-filled appendix led to appendectomy.

Findings:

  • Histopathology confirmed low-grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasm (LAMN) in the appendix.
  • The ovarian masses were also consistent with LAMN metastasis.

Implications:

  • The increasing incidence of LAMN necessitates improved early detection strategies.
  • Prompt surgical evaluation, including appendectomy, is vital for accurate diagnosis.
