Pemphigus foliaceus (PF), an autoimmune blistering disease, can rarely mimic ichthyosis with scaly plaques. This case highlights the importance of considering PF in unexplained scaling dermatoses for early diagnosis and improved outcomes.
Area of Science:
- Dermatology
- Immunodermatology
- Autoimmune Diseases
Background:
- Pemphigus foliaceus (PF) is an autoimmune blistering disease.
- It is characterized by the disruption of desmoglein 1 (DsG1), an epidermal cell adhesion protein.
- PF typically presents with superficial erosions or blisters but can mimic other conditions, complicating diagnosis.
