Cytopathology is a cost-effective diagnostic method for neoplastic lesions, critical in Nigeria's healthcare system amidst rising non-communicable diseases and cancer rates.
Conventional cytopathology methods, including Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC), remain essential due to affordability and accessibility, despite global advancements in immunocytochemistry and molecular diagnostics.

Purpose of the Study:

To review the evolution, current methodologies, and challenges of cytopathology practice in Nigeria.
To identify barriers to effective cytopathology implementation and advocate for strategic interventions.

Main Methods:

Review of historical development and current practices in Nigerian cytopathology.
Analysis of challenges including personnel shortages, infrastructure deficits, and regional service disparities.

Main Results:

Cytopathology services in Nigeria exhibit significant regional disparities in availability.
Lack of trained personnel and inadequate infrastructure impede effective cytopathology implementation.
Conventional methods like FNAC are widely accepted for diagnostic accuracy.

Conclusions:
